Agreements reached for transfers to new youth facility

On May 30, 2008, agreements were reached between the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ontario Public Services Employees Union concerning the application of the collective agreement during the transfer of youth in conflict with the law to the new Roy McMurtry Youth Centre located in Brampton.

The agreements allow for a specific number of Youth Services Officers and Social Workers to transfer to the new facility as per Appendix 13 (Relocation of an Operation Beyond a 40KM Radius) and the government’s relocation plan. The agreements cover members at the following facilities:

MERC agreements are currently being negotiated with respect to the disentanglement of youth from the following co-located sites:

  • Thunder Bay C.C.
  • Kenora Jail
  • Hamilton-Wentworth D.C.
  • Ottawa-Carleton D.C.

Once these agreements are finalized they will communicated with the division
